Almost Over :(

December 2nd, 2010 Posted 1:26pm

Not long until the end of the school year now- and then it will be Christmas! This year has seemed to go very fast. It has been heaps of fun but soon it will end. It is both a good and bad thing for school to end. Bad because some people are moving and you won’t see them at school after this year. Good because you get holidays to do things with your family and friends. Then there is Christmas and that is always fun :)

We all have had a good time this year and it is sad that it will come to an end, but nothing lasts forever and we always have the memories of this year :)

I have learnt a lot of new things and made great new friends that i will keep for a long time to come. It is really sad that some of my friends are leaving but it isn’t as though I will never see them again- I will find a way because I don’t want to lose them because they are true friends :)

Soon it will be goodbye for 2010 but hopefully 2011 will be even more exciting- fingers crossed :)

Netball Trials

November 17th, 2010 Posted 9:47am

I was still very tired from the night before but I really wanted to do my best. It was very hard because there were so many good players in unde 15s. I played 4 out of 4 games and I tried out at GA and GS. My opponents were all of my old team mates from lat year so it was pretty funny. I think I did pretty well so hopefully I get in a good team, fingers crossed. No matter what division I am in I think I will still get in a good team because everyone there was very good. I hope I get in Natalia’s team because she wasn’t at the trials so that will make it harder.

We find out what team and division we are in fairly soon. We found out that we have 3 weeks of pre season in January which will be very challenging and hard but it will be worth it. The club are going to bring in specialist coaches to help us out. Fingers crossed 2011 will be a great year in club netball, but all the hard work is still to come :)

Mick Callinan Annual Dinner

November 17th, 2010 Posted 9:40am

All of you guys who have read my recent posts would know that I was going to a dinner on the weekend. What I said before about it being a Sydney Swans dinner isn’t that true, I wasn’t aware at the time. 3 swans players did attend the dinner but just as special guests. Instead of being a Sydney Swans event it was The Mick Callinan Annual Dinner. The night is to raise money for the Mick Callinan Fund (A foundation raising money for cancer research and supporting junior sport.)

My cousin and I were the first ones to arrive at the dinner. We were waiting outside the room because we weren’t allowed in until it started. We were waiting for some of the players to arrive to have photos with them. Soon people started arriving. The president of the foundation introduced himself to us and said that there will be a bit of a delay because the special guest were still in the bar.

We stayed in the hallway to see them but they were still not coming. James Brayshaw came through the door and he wasn’t sure of where to go. We told him where the room was then we both had our photos taken with him. He is a really nice man.

We couldn’t wait any longer for the players to arrive because the dinner was starting. When we got in there the players started to arrive. The special guests were: Michael O’loughlin (Sydney Swans champion, now retired.) Brett Kirk (Another Sydney Swans Champion recently retired.) Craig Bolton (Most likely Swans captain for next year.) Luke Power (Champion Brisbane player.) James Braysaw (Ex cricketer, North Melbourne Chairman and Footy Show Co-host.) And finally Catherine Cox (Australian Netball Champion and NSW Swifts Champion.)

The night started off with them talking about Mick Callinan, who he was, what he did and what he stood for. His son also talked about him. It was a three course meal: Soup, Chicken or Beef and for dessert a cake and something else I wasn’t sure of. You couldn’t choose what you got to eat you just had to have what you were given. The food wasn’t very nice so we went through the drive through at macdonalds on the way home.

All the special guests were interviewed and asked questions one at a time. They were all great people. I had photos with all of the special guests and had my Sydney Swans Guernsey signed by: Michael O’loughlin, Brett Kirk and Craig Bolton. As well as my cousin and I having a few chats with them. They truly are great people especially Brett Kirk he had a lot of good things to say that were all true, both when he was being interviewed and when he was talking to us. He told us that: ‘It doesn’t matter what you are passionate about, whether it is reading or gardening or whatever, as long as you’re passionate about something.

After they were finished being interviewed there was a comedian. He was very funny. After he was done there was a band and they were pretty good. Soon it was time to go. Which was sad but it was a great night and it was a very good cause. All of the money payed that night was given to the fund. There was also an auction of signed things to raise money.

My cousin said that we would go every year and I am looking forward to it a lot :)

Rememberence Day

November 12th, 2010 Posted 8:11am

Yesterday on the 11th day of the 11th month was Rememberence Day. Other places in the world may know it as Poppy Day, Veterans Day and Armistice Day. This is a day that we all show our respect by taking a minute of silence remembering the end of ww1 and those soldiers who took part in it.

Yesterday for Rememberence Day we had a short service over the P.A where Miss Wyatt told everyone what this day was really about. After Miss Wyatt had finished Mikayla and I read a poem called: ‘In Flanders Field.’ After we had finished we all had a minute silence. That was our Remberence Day at school.

Down at the R.S.L all of our sudent leader from grade 7-10 were down there showing their respect for Rememberence Day as well as representing our school. They did a great job.

Debate- Circus Animals

October 14th, 2010 Posted 1:29pm

Today at school a guy named Jason Bongers came to talk about parliament. We acted out a debate which involved whether or not animals should be used in the circus. There was a: Speaker and a clerk as well as a couple more. I was on the side that suggested this proposal (the government.) The opposition proposed some good things as well as the independants as well but we still ended up winning. Dick Adams was supposed to come and talk to us but he didn’t end up getting to the school, he was probably very busy. It was surprisingly funner than I thought it would be. :)

Dealing With Anger

October 13th, 2010 Posted 9:38am

In skills for life we wrote things down like: what makes us angry, what we do when we get angry and a time where we have got angry and what we did and next time how to resolve the problem better. Here those things are:

A lot of things can make me angry but here are 3 of them:
1. When my sister touches my stuff without asking. (Because she nearly always breaks, ruins or loses them.)
2. When someone breaks a promise they made to me or tells a secret of mine or someone elses.
3. When my sister does something to me and I stick up for myself and I’m the one that gets into trouble.

This is what usually happens when I get angry:
When I’m feeling angry I don’t think straight I just do. This usually involves going to my room and slamming the door and saying hurtful things that I don’t mean that I regret later or physically taking things out on my sister. (Usually because she is the reason for me getting angry in the first place.

A time where I got angry:
One time my sister went into my room and took something of mine without asking and I was looking for it everywhere but she didn’t tell me where she had put it until after I didn’t need it anymore. I got really mad at her because she does this all the time, she laughed which didn’t help. I started shouting at her and started hitting her. She went and dobbed on me and I got in trouble. I just went to my room to cool down because I didn’t want to get in more trouble. That sort of thing happens a lot with my sister. Next time to deal with it so I won’t get in trouble I’l try not to shout or hit her. I’ll just have to deal with it.

Dear Ashley

October 8th, 2010 Posted 8:14am

This is something we have to do in skills for life with the hook Be Constructive Not Destructive. We had to choose a situation out of a few of them. This is a letter of a conflict that needs to be solved. Here it is:

Dear Ashley,
On the weekend me and my friend had planned to go see a movie. I got there and I was left waiting for her. She called me up last minute saying that she had to do something else and couldn’t make it. I am really mad at her and don’t feel like speaking to her at the moment but I do want to solve this conflict and go back to being friends. I have thought of a few ways to solve it but don’t know which one to choose, here they are: I could confront her about it and make her feel so bad we’d go back to being friends again, I could invite her to my place and we could go to the movies to make up for it or lastly we could just get together and talk about it and work things out. So what should I do?
